Goal IV. Strategies

Strategy 4.1

Academic Innovation | Create a central administrative entity for Academic Innovation in the Office of Academic Affairs to change the fabric of the institution to help FSU proactively adopt innovative ideas and respond effectively to radical change. Learn more about AI @ FSU.

Strategy 4.2

Innovation Space | Develop a collaborative physical and administrative infrastructure to empower cross-disciplinary innovation through the exploration of knowledge in shared physical space with programming.

Strategy 4.3

Institutional Technology | Advance technology assets and develop training resources to support faculty use of research computing infrastructure and promote best practices in data storage, sharing, security, compliance, and ethical use.

Strategy 4.4

Data-Engaged Campus | Embrace a fully data-engaged university decision architecture by expanding the resources for Institutional Research and connecting those resources to various entities across the university to advance research, teaching, and engagement.

Strategy 4.5

Innovations in Translational Research | Advance FSU's progress in developing applications for technologies and machine learning in the FSU Health translational research portfolio and expand efforts to grow the skilled workforce in Northwest Florida through the joint efforts of InSPIRE and LSI in workforce and educational development.

Goal IV. Tactics

Tactic 4.1 Academic Innovation

4.1a Drive FSU’s reputation as a leader in Academic Innovation through enhanced external communications and strategic community and industry partnerships that highlight FSU’s work in innovative education and research.

4.1b Establish formal mechanisms for sharing information, such as an Innovation Ambassadors Committee with representatives from each college to assist with the sharing and tracking of innovative resources, methods, and opportunities, as well as a formal process for establishing new projects or programs.

4.1c Establish a formal process that involves faculty, staff, and students in the development and evaluation of emerging technologies and methodologies.

Tactic 4.2 Innovation Space

4.2a Invest in an expanded interdisciplinary innovation center that provides an integrated, shared space available to all faculty, staff, and students on campus.

4.2b Create additional informal, structured opportunities for faculty and staff to communicate and exchange innovate ideas with their colleagues across campus.

4.2c Establish a reward structure that incentivizes faculty, staff, and students to experiment with new ideas and embrace innovation in higher education.

Tactic 4.3 Institutional Technology

4.3a Increase faculty resources in the Research Computing Center to include additional training and dedicated onboarding and support personnel.

4.3b Increase the number of HPC specialists dedicated to analyzing and integrating emerging technologies to support academic research and future scope emerging technologies through quarterly HPC horizon scans.

4.3c Develop an accountability framework to require annual assessments of computing resources, ensuring that models remain up to date and aligned with evolving research needs.

Tactic 4.4 Data-Informed University

4.4a Increase the utilization of institutional data in administrative decisions across the university.

4.4b Increase the number of Institutional Research staff to maximize the Office's ability to support a data-engaged campus.

Tactic 4.5 Innovations in Translational Research

4.5a Invest in resources to support advances in technology-assisted research and education. Ensure that these advances are communicated to external stakeholders and marketed.

4.5b Create a central repository for State Health Data that is managed by FSU with state funding that invites university faculty from all over the state to collaborate and engage in behavioral health research and policy development.

4.5c Amplify efforts to innovate new educational and workforce development trainings to support a growing aerospace and advanced manufacturing workforce in Northwest Florida.
